

The Red Panda is a cute furry small animal and is also known as Firefox, Fire Cat and Lesser Panda. This vegetarian eats mostly bamboo and is slightly bigger than a cat. The Red Panda lives in the Himalayas from northern India and southern China to Laos and Burma. There are estimated to be fewer than 2,500 mature Red Pandas today and their population is steadily declining in the face of human development.
The Okapi live in the Ituri Rainforest which is located in the Republic of Congo in Central Africa. Although Okapi have stripes like the zebra, they are more related to the giraffe. An Okapi has a blue tongue that is long enough to clean its eyes and ears. The world population of Okapis is around 10,000-20,000. The Okapi population continues decline due to destruction of habitat and poaching.
The Platypus is a semi-aquatic mammal that looks like a cross between a duck and a beaver. They live in eastern Australia and are the only mammals that lay eggs instead of giving birth to their young. The male Platypus has a spur on its hind foot that is venomous and can cause severe pain. Once hunted almost to extinction for its fur, the Platypus is now protected.
Tamarins are small monkeys about the size of squirrels and they can be found from southern Central America to middle South America. There are many species of Tamarins and come in all mixtures of black, brown and white. Tamarins live in tropical rain forests and open forest areas. They can live together in groups of usually between three and nine members. They eat fruits, plants, small animals and insects. In captivity, Tamarins have lived to be up to 18 years old.
